At one point he had such a big collection when he was a kid, he turned his room into the Superman museum and all the kids from school would come over to look at his collection because he lived next to his school and he would charge a nickel to tour his room. It actually started when he was a kid and he became fascinated with the Superman series and just kept collecting items ranging from lunch boxes to figurines to eventually actual movie props and wardrobes.
